Sustainability Assessment

Beyond Climate Solutions offer a sustainability assessment framework tailored to the needs of your organization.

We can develop a cost effective program that will gather relevant data and analyze the results, allow you to track your progress, help you to produce action plans.

Many sustainability practitioners are often faced with misconceptions about sustainability, and comments such as “I am green, I recycle” often arise.  While we recognize that the concept of sustainability is continually evolving, there are now frameworks available to formally assess the sustainability for your organization.

Sustainability Assessment will help build trust among your employees, clients and the communities where you operate, by measuring, reporting and tracking a series of  sustainability indicators in a transparent manner.

The indicators cover a wide range of sustainability dimensions: e.g. building air quality, waste minimization, sustainable food purchasing, responsible financial investments, employees health and well-being, etc.

Depending on the your type of organization, we will base your framework on existing model. For instance, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), is a comprehensive and adaptable sustainability framework that is designed to handle the complexity of larger organizations. It contains valuable social, economic and environmental indicators and offers information regarding the values of reporting and methodology. Many large companies are now incorporating the GRI report into their annual fiscal report.

For the public sector, the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) is currently the leading framework being developed by the Association of Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). In September 2009, they released their STARS 1.0 framework. The major advantage of STARS is that its structure is divided into operational categories (e.g education & research, operation) , rather than sustainability dimensions (e.g. energy, water, air), making it easier to determine where to find specific information. It has a point system that quickly shows strengths and weaknesses, thus allowing for comparison and tracking.
